If you are like me, you will appreciate the firm tannins from the French oak barrels. The Cabernet is quite dark, not too hot, with dark flavors of fruit. This 2013 gem is well balanced, and for me represents the best of cabernet from any region of California. With that link in mind, this week we visit director Francis Ford Coppola’s winery in the Alexander Valley to taste the 2013 Director’s Cut Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaking and filmmaking are both important parts of California’s economy. This Californian topper is warm, spicy and sultry with aromas of coffee, leather, tobacco, plum and a hint of mint.
